Activated charcoal is charcoal that has been treated with oxygen to open up millions of tiny pores between the carbon atoms. Charcoal is classified as an “adsorbent” substance, which means particles stick to the outside of the structure, rather than being sucked inside as with “absorbent” materials. When a material “adsorbs” something, it is attached to it by chemical attraction. It works by adsorbing chemicals, thus reducing their toxicity, through the entire length of the stomach and small and large intestines (GI tract).
How it Works
Common Sense™ “Activated Charcoal” is a fine, black powder that is odorless, tasteless, and nontoxic. It is made from wood that has been exposed to very high temperatures in an airless environment. It is then treated, or activated, to increase its ability to adsorb various substances, by reheating with oxidizing gas to break it into a very fine powder. Activated charcoal is pure carbon specially processed to make it highly adsorbent of particles and gases in the body’s digestive system.
Common Sense™ “Activated Charcoal” reduces the amount of poisons absorbed into the bloodstream from the stomach. It is a popular remedy for flatus (intestinal gas) or diarrhea. Charcoal mixed with water is a common way to treat an upset stomach. Common Sense™ “Activated Charcoal” has many other uses such as care for viruses, bacteria, bacterial toxic byproducts, snake venom and other substances. It has also shown to be helpful both before and after alcohol consumption to lessen the amount that is absorbed by the body. It is also a filter for absorbing cholesterol. When used topically it can help draw out poisons and other toxins such as, insect bites and stings, poison ivy, skin infections, and wounds. By adding water to the powder, to make a paste it can alleviate pain and itching discomfort. Charcoal is also a natural alternative for teeth whitening. As always here at CSP we strive to provide only the best products. Common Sense™ “Activated Charcoal” is a versatile and useful everyday must have for your home.
